Why aren't my changes showing up in the Editor?
Fix missing edits in the Editor: unsaved changes, read-only view, pending suggestions, failed saves and more.

Symptoms
You edited a Word document in the Editor, or asked Noxtua to edit it, but the change is missing. You may see one of the following:
Edits are lost after you close and reopen the document, reload the page, or return to the chat later.
A downloaded .docx does not contain your latest edits.
You type in the document, but nothing changes; there is no toolbar.
Noxtua says it edited the document, but the text looks the same, or the changes appear as colored redlines instead of plain text.
The header of the document panel shows one of these messages:
Unsaved changes
Saving …
Saving failed — changes live in this tab only.
Read-only view
A dialog appears when you try to leave the chat: Your documents are still being processed.
Applies to
Product: Noxtua
Platform: Noxtua web app in the browser
App area: the Editor — the document panel that opens a project's Word (.docx) file beside the chat, in the Personal space and in projects. PDFs and images open in the preview and cannot be edited.
Quick fix
Most of the time, the change was made but not saved yet, or the document was opened in read-only mode.
Look at the save state in the document panel's header. If it reads Unsaved changes or Saving …, stop typing for about 5 seconds and wait until it reads Saved to Noxtua.
If the header reads Read-only view, click Edit to switch to editing, then make your change again.
Close the document and reopen it from the sidebar with Open in the editor. The Editor loads the last saved version.
Causes & solutions
The causes are listed from most to least likely. Start with the first one that matches what you see.
1. The change has not been saved yet
The Editor saves automatically after 5 seconds of inactivity and immediately when you close the document, or when Noxtua finishes an answer. A download or a reload in between can miss the last edits.
How to tell: the header reads Unsaved changes or Saving … instead of Saved to Noxtua.
Stop typing and wait until the header reads Saved to Noxtua.
Only then download, close the document, or reload the page.
If you already downloaded a copy, click Download again to get the saved version.
Check: close the document, reopen it with Open in the editor, and confirm your edit is there.
2. The document opened in read-only view
Clicking a citation in an answer opens the document at the cited passage in a read-only view. You can read and download it there, but you cannot edit it.
How to tell: the header reads Read-only view, there is no Format / Layout / Review toolbar, and typing has no effect.
Click Edit in the document panel header.
Wait for the toolbar to appear.
Make the same change again.
Check: the toolbar is visible, and the header shows Saved to Noxtua a few seconds after your edit.
3. Noxtua's edits are suggestions waiting for your review
When Noxtua edits a document, its changes arrive as tracked suggestions, like Word's Track Changes. They stay as redlines until you accept them. Edits to a file that isn't open are saved in the background: its row and chip show Edited by Noxtua, and a message names the edited files.
How to tell: the text shows colored insertions and deletions, and the Review tab lists cards such as Inserted, Deleted, or Replaced.
Open the document and switch to the Review tab.
Go through the cards with Next change, and click Accept or Reject on each, or click Accept all to take every Noxtua suggestion at once.
Wait for Saved to Noxtua.
Check: the redlines are gone, the Review tab shows No change selected, and the accepted text is still there after reopening.
Tracked changes from other authors (for example, revisions made in Word) are not part of Accept all. Decide them card by card.
4. The save failed
If the connection drops or the server cannot be reached, the save fails, and your edits exist only in the open browser tab.
How to tell: the header reads Saving failed — changes live in this tab only.
Do not close or reload the tab — that would lose the edits.
Click Download to keep a copy of what is on screen.
Check your network or VPN connection, then make a small edit (for example, add and remove a space) so the Editor tries to save again.
If the save keeps failing, upload the downloaded copy to the project again.
Check: the header reads Saved to Noxtua, and the edit is still there after you reopen the document.
5. The same document is open in two tabs or windows
Each tab saves its own copy. The last tab to save overwrites the other's changes.
How to tell: the document is open in a second browser tab, window, or device, and edits from one of them disappear.
Close the document in every other tab, window, or device.
Reopen it in one tab with Open in the editor.
Redo any edits that were overwritten.
Check: after reopening, the document shows your latest edits and no other tab has it open.
6. You left the chat while Noxtua was still editing
Noxtua saves documents it edits in the background when its answer ends. Leaving earlier discards those edits.
How to tell: you clicked Leave and discard in the Your documents are still being processed dialog, switched to another chat, or closed the tab while Noxtua was still answering.
Go back to the chat.
Ask Noxtua to make the edits again.
Stay in the chat until the answer is finished and the spinner on the document row disappears.
Check: the document shows Edited by Noxtua and contains the changes when you open it.
7. Two files in the project have the same name
Noxtua finds documents by file name. If two files share a name, it cannot tell which one to edit, and the edit fails.
How to tell: Noxtua reports that it could not edit the file, or mentions an ambiguous file name, and the project's file list shows two files with that name.
Open the project's Files.
Delete the duplicate you no longer need, or download it, rename it, and upload it again.
Ask Noxtua to make the edit again.
Check: the file name appears only once in Files, and Noxtua's edit shows up in the document.
Prevent it next time
Wait for Saved to Noxtua in the header before you download, close the document, reload, or leave the chat.
Open a document for editing from the sidebar with Open in the editor. A citation opens it read-only.
Keep each document open in only one browser tab, window, or device at a time.
Stay in the chat until Noxtua has finished its answer when it is editing documents.
After Noxtua edits a document, review its suggestions in the Review tab and accept the ones you want to keep.
Give every file in a project a unique name.
Never close a tab that shows Saving failed — changes live in this tab only. Download a copy first.
Still not working?
Contact Noxtua Support at support@noxtua.com, or ask your organization's Noxtua admin. Include:
Product and area: Noxtua web app, Editor (document panel)
Browser: name and version (for example Chrome 141), and your operating system
Time of the issue: date, time, and time zone, as exact as you can
Document: the file name, the project, and the chat it was open in
What you did: the edit you made, or what you asked Noxtua to change
Error text: the exact message in the panel header or in the chat, for example, Saving failed — changes live in this tab only.
Screenshot: of the whole window, including the document panel header
If the save failed, attach the copy you downloaded, so support can compare it with the stored version.
