Intro
You have logged in to Noxtua and want it to work with your own material: a contract, a judgment, or a client email. In a few minutes, you will have uploaded your first documents, learned which files Noxtua accepts and their size limits, and asked your first question about them. You will also learn how uploads differ between your Personal space and a project. In the Personal space, a file you upload in a chat can be read only by that chat. In a project, every chat in the project can read it, even though you uploaded it in just one chat.
What you need
A Noxtua account. You have logged in at least once using your invitation email. If not, start with Log in to Noxtua.
A supported browser. A current version of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari.
Role: any user role. Uploading requires no admin rights.
A test file. A PDF or Word document under 100 MB that you are allowed to process in Noxtua.
Orientation
Three ways to add a file
Pick, drop, or paste. In the chat box, click + and choose Upload from computer. You can also drag files into the chat window or paste them, for example, a screenshot. All three methods check files the same way.
File limits
Up to 100 MB per file. Larger files are rejected before they leave your computer, and Noxtua names them in a message.
Supported file types (summary)
Documents, spreadsheets, text, images, and emails. This is enough to get started; the article Supported file types has the full details.
Word documents (.docx) open in an editor; other supported files open read-only. Audio, video, and old formats such as .pages are currently not supported.
Personal space or project?
Where you upload a file determines which chats can read it.
Personal space: Only the chat where you uploaded the file can read it. Good for a one-off question.
Project: Every chat in the project can read the file, even though you uploaded it in just one chat. Good for a matter you will come back to.
If you will ask about the same documents more than once, create a project first (New project in the sidebar). Files you add as Project knowledge are read in every chat. You can also move an existing chat into a project later with Add to project.
Step by step
Open a new chat in your Personal space, or open a chat inside the project for your matter. In the Personal space, only this chat can read the file. In a project, every chat in the project can read it.
Click + in the chat box.
Choose Upload from computer.
Select one or more files and confirm.
Wait until the file chip no longer shows Processing …. Scans can take a little longer while their text is recognized.
Type your question about the document and send it.
Click the document chip to open the file next to the chat and review the passages Noxtua cites.
Try it yourself
Upload a contract and send one of these prompts:
Summarise the attached contract in five bullet points: parties, subject matter, term, termination rights, and liability cap.Expected result: Five bullets, each with a reference to the section of the contract it is from.
List every deadline and notice period in this document as a table with the clause, the period, and what triggers it.Expected result: A table with one row per deadline. Click a reference to jump to the corresponding passage in the document.
Upload two versions of the same document and send:
Compare the two attached versions and list the substantive changes, clause by clause.Expected result: A list of changed clauses with the old and new wording, excluding purely formal edits.
Common pitfalls
"Unsupported file type". The file extension isn't on the list, for example, a video or a .pages file. Save it as a PDF or Word document and upload it again.
"Too large to upload (max. 100 MB)". Split the PDF or compress scans before uploading.
Asking before processing has finished. Wait until Processing … disappears, or Noxtua may not yet be able to read the file.
"Processing failed". Click Retry processing. If it fails again, the file may be password-protected or damaged.
Files missing after unpacking a zip or email. Noxtua names the files it skipped. Usually, they have an unsupported type or are over the limit.
Documents "gone" in a new chat. Files uploaded in a personal chat stay in that chat. Put recurring documents into a project instead.
Next step
Set up your first project [see article Projects]: keep the chats and files for one matter together.
